Hunter Indian Grocery — a local Indian pantry at 25 West Mall, Rutherford

The counter

We're a family-run Indian grocer trading as Hunter Indian Grocery under Hunter Global Trade Pty Ltd (ABN 66 697 824 016). You'll find us in Shop 6, 25 West Mall, Rutherford — the West Mall strip surrounded by Domino's, Priceline Pharmacy and Anytime Fitness, and a 200-metre walk from Coles and Woolworths.

We opened because Rutherford didn't have an Indian grocer of its own. The nearest were in East Maitland and Newcastle — a real drive for a bag of atta, a fresh block of paneer or a jar of ghee. If you're in Rutherford, Telarah, Aberglasslyn or Thornton, we're the closest Indian pantry to your kitchen. If you're further out in Maitland, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Cessnock or Port Stephens, we bring it to your door on a same-week schedule.

Jain-friendly range

We cross-check ingredient lists to flag SKUs that are free of onion, garlic and root vegetables, and mark them with a Jain-friendly badge on the shelf and on the product page. If a supplier reformulates and the item no longer qualifies, we remove the flag. The badge is not a store-wide vegetarian claim.

Ingredients and allergens

We stock a full Indian range — packaged, fresh and frozen. Some products contain egg, dairy, meat or fish, and some contain common allergens. The ingredients and allergen panel on the pack is the source of truth. Jain-friendly SKUs are flagged only after we check the ingredient list.

Surinder Mandhra — Founder & Owner

Surinder founded Hunter Global Trade Pty Ltd and opened Hunter Indian Grocery at 25 West Mall to fill a gap he'd lived himself: no Indian grocer in Rutherford. He looks after buying, brand mix and community partnerships.
